ShipBob

ShipBob is intended for the ecommerce job of outsource storage, pick/pack/ship operations while retaining usable inventory and fulfillment visibility. ShipBob publishes ecommerce fulfillment and pricing material for outsourced fulfillment. For a non-technical operator, assess whether the required store or business inputs can be maintained, who owns exceptions, and whether a pilot can be measured by on-time shipment, fulfillment accuracy, landed fulfillment cost, and return handling—not simply whether an account can be switched on. Fulfillment cost and service quality depend on product dimensions, inbound workflow, warehouse allocation, destinations, returns, and peak season—not merely an app subscription.

Questions to answer before buying

Data and operating inputs

Can the team keep Orders, Inventory, and Product dimensions accurate and use them only for the documented workflow?

Public answer: Official materials list Orders, Inventory, and Product dimensions as the inputs and Fulfillment, Shipping, and Inventory visibility as the work it supports. That explains the product's scope; it does not show whether your own account data is complete or accurate. Before setup, confirm that the required store data can stay current and that key definitions match.

Pilot and rollout

Which small, reversible workflow can test Fulfillment, Shipping, and Inventory visibility before the team expands it?

Public answer: Start with one small use case that can be paused or rolled back, and record the current baseline. Reconcile a limited set of SKUs, locations, order states, and lead times first. Run the proposed workflow beside the current system before allowing writes. Test returns, partial fulfillment, oversell, and peak-volume exceptions. Compare “on-time shipment, fulfillment accuracy, landed fulfillment cost, and return handling” with the current workflow or a control. Wait for a complete business cycle before expanding.

Owner and exception path

Who owns configuration, exception review, and the human stop path when the workflow is wrong or incomplete?

Public answer: Public guidance is aimed at Fulfillment manager and Operations lead. Before launch, name the people who configure the workflow, review exceptions, and can stop it. Also check: Fulfillment cost and service quality depend on product dimensions, inbound workflow, warehouse allocation, destinations, returns, and peak season—not merely an app subscription. Public documentation cannot assign these internal owners for you.

Price and contract scope

What will the first month, actual usage, add-ons, implementation, and contract terms cost—not just the headline plan?

Public answer: ShipBob’s pricing page describes core fulfillment fees and asks for a customized quote. Build the evaluation from real SKUs, packaging, inbound cadence, destination mix, return rate, and peak scenarios. The listed amounts come from the vendor and may exclude tax, implementation, add-ons, usage, or contract commitments. Check the official page again before purchase.

Measurement before expansion

Which baseline, exception case, and decision rule will decide whether the pilot expands or stops?

Public answer: Record the current baseline for on-time shipment, fulfillment accuracy, landed fulfillment cost, and return handling. Run one normal case and one exception case alongside the current workflow. Use the same rule to decide whether to expand or stop.

Pros

  • It is a physical fulfillment operating model, not just software; the network and service process are part of the product decision.
  • Its main job is to outsource storage, pick/pack/ship operations while retaining usable inventory and fulfillment visibility. It is not designed to replace every ecommerce tool.
  • Start with a small test and use on-time shipment, fulfillment accuracy, landed fulfillment cost, and return handling to decide whether to expand.

Cons

  • Fulfillment cost and service quality depend on product dimensions, inbound workflow, warehouse allocation, destinations, returns, and peak season—not merely an app subscription.
  • ShipBob’s pricing page describes core fulfillment fees and asks for a customized quote. Build the evaluation from real SKUs, packaging, inbound cadence, destination mix, return rate, and peak scenarios.
  • A named owner, reliable data sources, and a human fallback are still needed. Installation is only the start.

Pricing Analysis

ShipBob’s pricing page describes core fulfillment fees and asks for a customized quote. Build the evaluation from real SKUs, packaging, inbound cadence, destination mix, return rate, and peak scenarios. Do not judge value from the headline price alone. Include actual usage, required integrations, and human review time; the listed price is not the final bill.

We have been a ShipBob customer for over two years, but this has been one of the worst fulfilment experiences we have had. ShipBob lost one of our inventory shipments, then repeatedly delayed receiving and stocking the replacement shipment despite assuring us it would be prioritised. Our customers were left waiting for weeks, forcing us to issue refunds, lose subscription customers and pay for express shipping to try to repair the damage. Support responses were mostly generic apologies, references to internal SLAs and requests for “continued patience,” with no clear ownership or reliable completion date. ShipBob eventually offered a credit for the manufacturing cost of the lost inventory, but this does not cover the lost sales, refunds, additional shipping costs or reputational damage caused. The lack of urgency, accountability and communication has been extremely disappointing.

I had a poor experience using ShipBob and would suggest small businesses look for a different provider for warehousing and fulfilment. Keep looking.

BEWARE! We started fulfilling through ShipBob in October 2025 and it has been the worst decision we have made since launching the business. One of the carriers that was included in the ship-option was Amazon Shipping. ShipBob has shipped so many (at least 50%) of our orders via Amazon Shipping and it has been an absolute nightmare! All of our inventory is at ShipBob's FC in Las Vegas and all ordered shipped through Amazon Shipping initially travel to San Bernandino, CA. Most orders sit in San Bernandino for a few days without any updates. That is the case even if the shipping address is southern California. For East Coast shipping addresses, they eventually start moving east (that's if they ever start moving). Even if the final destination is Texas, Amazon will move the packages to Alabama or Tennessee. The packages will then sit there for another few days. In the meantime, customers are furious that Amazon either provides no updates or they never deliver. We then reach out to ShipBob for answers except ShipBob never escalates the issues to Amazon for updates. After weeks of complaining to ShipBob and asking them to remove Amazon Shipping from our carriers list, they finally respond and suggest a new rate sheet that will literally cost us 22.47% more to exclude Amazon from the list. We are speechless! This was the response after ShipBob actively pushed us out for several weeks while we were dealing with customer complaints and having to ship replacement units at our own expense (because ShipBob has a 30-45 day window you have to wait for before you become eligible to file a claim). We are scaling quickly and ShipBob has done a good job losing the opportunity to build a long term relationship with us. p.s. Good luck trying to reach the salesperson at ShipBob for support. They disappear once you sign up with them.
