Commslayer: Shopify helpdesk with AI assistance

Commslayer is a Shopify support workspace that helps staff answer customer messages and handle supported order requests without leaving the conversation. It shows order and product details beside each conversation; the AI Agent can draft replies and propose actions that staff may be required to approve first.

Buying view: Commslayer is worth comparing when a Shopify support team wants unlimited staff seats and conversation-based billing. The important limits are answered conversations, AI messages and AI drafts, which use separate monthly pools.

Commslayer workflows for Shopify support

Commslayer is a Shopify support workspace where staff answer customer messages with order and product context beside the conversation. They can use an AI draft, reply themselves or handle supported order actions. The AI Agent follows configured knowledge and guidance; the team can require a person to approve each proposed message or action before it goes ahead. Paid plans also offer customer self-service order editing and Meta comment moderation; Voice AI and Returns are separately announced as coming soon.

Answer Shopify customer questions and handle order actions

A customer asking about an order may need both an answer and an order action. Switching between a conversation and Shopify makes that work harder to follow. Commslayer places the relevant store context in the helpdesk and lets the team decide which parts staff handle and which parts the AI Agent may propose or perform.

Review AI drafts before replying or changing orders

Staff open a conversation, check the Shopify details in the sidebar and either write a reply, edit a draft or use a supported order action. The team can also let the AI Agent handle eligible requests. In Require approval mode, a person reviews each proposed message or action and may approve, edit or take over; a proposal is not a completed store change.

How Commslayer routes support, order edits and moderation

Commslayer brings messages into Helpdesk, lets staff approve or take over AI work, and supports separate order-editing and comment-moderation routes.

Support with staff approval of AI replies and actions, and human takeover

A customer message reaches Helpdesk with the available Shopify customer and order context. The AI Agent uses the team's knowledge and guidance to propose a reply or supported action. In Require approval mode, staff check each proposal and approve, edit or take over; unsupported requests stay with staff. Approval permits the next step, while the connected system's response determines whether an order action actually completed.

Enable customer order editing after checkout

The merchant enables order editing and places its block on the Shopify thank-you page. After checkout, a customer opens that surface and uses the available controls for a supported order change. This route gives the customer a defined self-service action; it does not use the helpdesk's staff approval path for AI-proposed changes.

Review automatically hidden social comments

On a supported Meta post, Commslayer evaluates incoming comments against the merchant's moderation rules. With auto-hide enabled, a matching comment moves to Hidden comments. Staff inspect that view and restore a comment if it should remain visible; the merchant decides the final moderation policy.

Helpdesk, AI drafts and order controls

Commslayer combines a helpdesk, AI drafting and supported order actions while leaving sensitive decisions with staff.

Helpdesk

Helpdesk is the queue where staff handle email, live chat and supported social conversations. A teammate can read the message beside customer and Shopify order details, add a note, assign the case and send a reply. That shared record helps the next teammate continue the conversation; the AI Agent is optional for the requests the team chooses to automate.

AI Agent

The AI Agent handles eligible support requests using the team's knowledge and guidance rules. Depending on configuration, it can propose or send a supported reply and propose or carry out a supported store action. Staff can inspect sample behavior in Playground before going live, then use Require approval to review each message or action when the store needs a human decision.

AI drafts

AI drafts help a staff member start a reply without handing the conversation to the Agent. A draft draws on available help content and Shopify context; the staff member checks the facts, changes the wording and sends it. Draft usage has its own allowance, separate from the messages the AI Agent sends to customers.

Order editing

For stores on paid Commslayer plans, Order editing gives shoppers a configured self-service route for supported changes after checkout. The merchant enables the feature and places its block on the Shopify thank-you page; the customer uses the available controls instead of opening a support ticket for every change. Staff can also perform supported order actions in Helpdesk, while an AI-proposed refund follows its own approval and permission rules.

Comment moderation

Comment moderation helps staff manage supported Meta post comments on paid plans. Commslayer can reply to eligible comments and hide content matched by its moderation rules; staff inspect Hidden comments and restore a comment when needed. Cases that need a person move into the inbox. Social comments do not use the billable conversation allowance, although the moderation feature itself is a paid-plan benefit.

Commslayer pricing: conversations and AI usage

Is Commslayer right for your Shopify team?

Commslayer fits Shopify teams that want order context and staff-controlled AI replies in one helpdesk.

When this product fits

Commslayer fits a Shopify support team that wants staff, order context and AI assistance in one helpdesk without paying for each additional seat. The team should count answered conversations separately from messages sent by the AI Agent and drafts shown to staff. Those are three different monthly allowances, so an operation with frequent AI replies may reach a limit even when its conversation volume is modest.

Check the work that needs a paid plan

A Shopify team with many agents can pilot drafts and staff approval first. Test cancellation, address changes and refunds with wrong identities, fulfilled orders and API failures before any automatic action. Track conversations, sent AI messages and drafts separately. Request a written overage schedule and a sample bill, and verify which voice, SMS, subscription and warehouse actions are available today.

Commslayer questions answered

Commslayer plan decisions depend on conversation, AI message and draft allowances as well as the order actions a team needs.

Can I keep using Commslayer for free?

There is a genuine free plan, but it is not unlimited. It currently includes 300 conversations, 300 automated AI messages and 300 AI drafts per month without per-seat charges; exceeding the relevant limits requires an upgrade or stopping usage. Also check the required channels, order actions and paid features rather than relying on the free-install label.

Do AI drafts and automatic replies use the same allowance?

The current help page lists separate allowances for conversations, automated AI messages and AI drafts. A draft is prepared for an employee, while an automatic reply is sent to a customer, so neither should automatically be labelled one AI resolution. Track threads, sent AI messages and generated drafts separately, and confirm any additional metering attached to order actions.

Can Commslayer AI cancel orders and issue refunds with employee approval first?

It can execute enabled actions when their conditions are met, and the official settings include Require approval. Order status, customer identity, refund amounts and frequency limit what can run; fulfilled orders cannot be handled using the same cancellation process as unfulfilled orders. Test approval, rejection, duplicate requests and integration failures before enabling automatic execution.

What is the actual price for AI overages?

The public sources conflict, so one confirmed rate cannot be applied to every account. The website lists $0.15 per additional conversation and $0.075 per automated AI message, while the help page lists $0.05 per AI resolution, using a different unit. Obtain written confirmation for a new account and a sample bill based on the same conversations, messages and drafts.

Does an AI cancellation in Shopify always stop the third-party warehouse from shipping?

No such guarantee should be assumed: changing a Shopify order and stopping a warehouse shipment are separate system actions. Confirm whether your warehouse has a supported native action or requires a custom API connection, and test picked orders, timeouts and partial failures. A cancelled status in Shopify alone does not prove that the warehouse has stopped.

Do more employees or stores create per-seat charges?

The current public plans do not charge per employee seat and support multiple stores in an account. Costs can still change with conversation, automated-message and draft usage, so unlimited seats or multi-store support does not mean unlimited usage. Before migration or multi-store rollout, verify the intended separation of customer data, knowledge and action permissions.

Rating for the Commslayer Shopify app.

PhycoHealth

Commslayer has brought my fuzzy brain feeling about customer service to clear thinking and strategic capability. The user interface is more responsive, user friendly, and straight forward for agents. And the AI Agent is the best we have used - easy to train and transfer tasks to slowly and steadily. I have reduced the customer service management time significantly and can easily integrate all apps as needed. Commslayer is the progressive, next generation e-commerce helpdesk.

Kingdom Equestrian

Amazing app - the best alternative to Gorgias (or any other stupidly expensive customer support app!). Super responsive and helpful team, packed with features, just unbelievable that this app is FREE to start with, then really low cost for the upgrade. I think one of the best things that it does is connect with AI. The API and MCP are incredible, with tons of access - integrates completely seamlessly with Claude or Codex agents. Blown away. Thanks Commslayer - keep doing what you're doing!

Sunray Fly Fish

The best help desk software I've ever used. Lots of other software is too expensive, too complicated, and doesn't suit small to medium-sized businesses like mine. I run three brands through this, seven figures, with one human agent. The support is fantastic. The developer himself often responds, and the other customer service guys all really know their software. I can't recommend it highly enough.
